– Highlights Expansion of India’s Healthcare Network
Hyderabad, the voice: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Thursday reviewed the progress of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bibinagar, and underscored the Centre’s commitment to strengthening India’s healthcare infrastructure through expanded medical institutions and improved healthcare services.
Addressing officials during the review meeting, the Minister said that India has witnessed remarkable growth in its tertiary healthcare network over the past two decades. “From having only one AIIMS till the end of the 20th century, the country today has 23 AIIMS, reflecting the government’s sustained efforts to make quality healthcare accessible to people across the nation,” he said.
Nadda noted that the government has developed a uniform and integrated healthcare framework by simultaneously strengthening tertiary healthcare institutions while expanding and reinforcing secondary and primary healthcare systems. He added that nearly 1.85 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are now serving close to 1.5 billion people, significantly improving access to comprehensive healthcare services.
Reviewing the performance of AIIMS Bibinagar, the Minister said the institute is providing outpatient services across all major medical specialties and currently attends to around 1,800 patients every day. He appreciated the institute’s growing role in delivering quality healthcare to the people of Telangana and neighbouring regions.
Highlighting its community outreach initiatives, Nadda said AIIMS Bibinagar has adopted six villages and has conducted 547 mobile medical camps to provide healthcare services in rural areas. In addition, the institute’s Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) and Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) have collectively benefited 66,148 patients, demonstrating its commitment to preventive and community-based healthcare.
The Union Minister also stressed the need to further strengthen human resources at the institute. He emphasized the importance of recruiting more senior residents and creating greater opportunities for them to enhance the quality of patient care, medical education, and research.
The review reflects the Centre’s continued focus on expanding healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that premier institutions such as AIIMS Bibinagar evolve into centres of excellence in medical education, research, and patient care.
